About Us

Enhancing medical and professional knowledge, doing charity and philanthropy in North America and our country of origin, Pakistan, and everywhere in the world.

Army Medical College was originally conceived by the late Prime Minister Z.A. Bhutto, to cater the needs of the Armed Forces of Physicians.

In the mid 1970s, due to rapid expansions of national health services and mass exodus of physicians to the middle east, the armed forces were finding it increasingly difficult to attract physicians.

In 1977, Mr Bhutto’s successor, the late General Zia-ul-Haq, founded the college and took special interest in the project.

General Mohammed Ayub Khan took over as the founding principal of the college and put his heart and soul into the project. Through his untiring efforts, and the hard work of the faculty, the college was recognized by the Medical and Dental Counsel of Pakistan and affiliated to Quaid E Azam University, Islamabad. The first class graduated in 1981 with one-hundred cadets (80 males and 20 females). Since then, the college has come a long way and Amcolians form the back-bone of the Armed Forces Medical Services.

Here in North America, a substantial number of our graduates are practicing in various specialties.

In 1998, the affiliation was transferred to NUST (National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad). Dental faculty was added in the same year. More recently National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) was formed, and the now the College is affiliated with NUMS, Islamabad.

AMCOLAANA is the Alumni Association of Graduates of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, residing in North America.
